Here for sale we have a very rare large vintage wall tapestry of a lively tavern scene with three separate vignettes, depicted in beautiful muted colours.
This is truly a fabulous item of vintage decor!
There are many subjects and activities, including men drinking, cavorting, and playing mandolin, maidens serving drink, with yard chickens and weapons.
The main photo captures the entire canvas. The other three photos each show a one third segment of the canvas.
Please take a close look at all the photos to see amazing details the artisan incorporated into the beautiful piece. I have not seen another one exactly like it, nor do they usually come in such a large size.
The piece is in excellent vintage condition with no stains, holes or other noticeable flaws or damage.
A little history: By the beginning of the 19th Century technology had advanced sufficiently to enable machines to create tapestries. There followed a vogue for such pieces and large numbers were made in classic styles. Most of these were made in muted colours to achieve the effect of age. Factories for these tapestries were usually located around Paris and in Northern France (or Belgium). Most of these tapestries depicted the work of well-known 18th Century artists or scenes from legends.
