Advert Description

Oxfam Books & Music Nottingham Published 2001. Slight wear to edges of cover. Pages in excellent condition. In AD 920 King Edward the Elder ordered the construction of a Saxon stronghold near Bakewell. It was the last fortress to be built in a campaign, conducted by King Alfred's son and daughter, which secured the cooperation of the Vikings in a united England. This book tells the story of the rediscovery of the Saxon stronghold and the farming system which supported it. Most of all, it tells the story of the people of the time and how their understanding of the landscape is particularly relevant to us now. See Oxfam website for delivery information
