A few weeks ago we asked our members and visitors to take part in our very own dog survey. An impressive 2.3k of people joined in and with questions ranging from what pets you have, to what tricks your pooch can perform, we have collated some very intriguing results!
Why do dogs eat poop?
1 in 5 dogs eat poop! Ew! More scientifically known ascoprophagia, extra digestive enzymes and nutrients can be found in poop, so as gross as it is, your dog is gaining something from this unsightly habit – perhaps best just to avoid post-walk kisses! If you are concerned about your dog eating poop, then it is always recommended you ask your vet as they will be able to give the best advice, check your dog’s health and put your mind at ease.
Why do dogs chase their tails?
Our dogs give us so much joy. I saw my dog do this for the first time the other day as she tried to nibble the end of her tail and it made me chuckle – 37% of the dogs in question from the survey chase their tail! Dogs are playful creatures by nature, so it is not uncommon to see this behaviour in younger animals. They also love to grab your attention, so if you have shown excitement and praise toward this behaviour before, they might learn it as a way to steal your affection. However, tail chasing can sometimes become a cause for concern, particulary if the behaviour starts and persists in older dogs so if you are ever concerned, your vet will be best to give you further advice.
Do you dress your dog up?
With dogs being such loving and loyal creatures, it can be easy to get carried away and dress our dogs up like they are little people. Having two crazy Springer Spaniels, this doesn’t happen much in our house, they would much prefer be in a muddy puddle outdoors. HOWEVER we have been known to try and get them to wear a pair of glasses or silly hat for a photo or two, I will hold my hands up to that! 42% of people admitted to dressing up their pooches, I wonder how many of you were being truthful?
We have gathered up the findings we found most interesting and put it together for you in this nifty little infographic. We hope you enjoy viewing it as much as we enjoyed creating it! Thank you to all those that took part in our survey and made this possible, keep an eye out for further chances to take part in our surveys on site and across Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus.
