Mr Mitchell’s Back to School Top Tips!

On Friday, we had a delightful twitter chat with the wonderful Mr Mitchell from Channel 4’s Educating Yorkshire. We realise today is the first day back to school for a lot of people and we wanted to make sure that you weren’t without Mr Mitchell’s incredibly useful advice. So…here is a selection of his top tips!

The Tips…

1. Garner all the support you can!

School is tough and you can’t do it alone. Remember: your family, friends and teachers are always there for you. Go to them as much as you wish for advice, support and a little bit of reassurance!

2. Stay calm and keep that focus – right from the start!

It’s tough but it takes hard work to succeed. Natural intelligence is only half the battle! Above and beyond all else, however, stay optimistic and believe in yourself! You CAN do this!

3. Remember, this tough period won't last forever!

After any tough exams you'll be able to reward yourself with a long summer, and perhaps a holiday. Particulaly those of you heading into Year 11 or Year 13. Just stay positive think about that gorgeous summer! There IS a light at the end of the tunnel.

4. Languages are valuable

Despite their unpopularity, in general, one of Mr Mitchell’s key tips was to take on a language (if you can). AND if you’re taking one and HATE it – just remember the doors it’s opening for you! It’ll be worth it in the long run.

5. Make sure you have breaks and relax.

Mr Mitchell's tip isn't the most, erm, convincing here but he makes a brill point! Whether it be doing Yoga, watching the TV or going for a walk – breaks are essential to increased productivity. Don't burn yourself out or you won't get the results you want!

6. A tip for the teachers…

All of our tips so far have been limited to the lovely students, but we didn’t forget about the lovely teachers! Just remember, no matter how you feel – you are appreciated and you’re doing an incredible job. You really are changing someones life, so thank you.

The lovely Amy

A standout case during the chat was the lovely Amy Bunt who is just going into year 11! As a result of our chat not only has Amy won a Herschel Rucksack courtesy of MyBag but she’s received lots advice from Mr Mitchell!

In response to her win, Amy said “I wasn’t in the chat for the rucksack, I just wanted to get some good feedback from Mr Mitchell…but…the rucksack will help me a lot as mine has a rip in it! Thanks!”

We truly wish Amy all the best for Year 11, we know she’ll ace it! Good luck, Amy!
