Heaven's Gate Sanctuary
This is a small independent animal sanctuary which cares for elderly and terminally ill animals, mainly small / toy dogs and cats. It is run by volunteers and paid for by fund raising activities. The dogs we take in are usually have either been abandoned on the streets and have been picked up by the dog wardens or have been handed in because they are old and the vet treatment they require is expensive and ongoing. As a result they find their way onto death row in the council pounds because they are unlikely to be easy to rehome. The major charities usually take out the younger healthy dogs. We have a limited network of experienced foster homes which provide a safe caring environment for them to spend their twilight years which is the equivalent of hospice care in human terms. None of our dogs are placed in kennels. Volunteers transport these bewildered old souls from the pounds to safety. We welcome donations of old & unwanted bedding (blankets, sheets. quilts, pillows) which can make their lives more comfortable. If you know of an animal needing our help please get in touch.
