Update to Freelander comments made on the 07/12/02. Through persistence I am pleased that my Freelander has been promptly repaired by Farnell's, it required a new rear sub frame. I considered replacing my Freelander but couldn't find a rival 4x4 to match the ride, feel and comfort of the Freelander. Therefore I have decided to stick with the Freelander.

I paid £12,088 for a W reg Freelander 2.0DI with 25K on the clock-purchased Sep 02. In my short time of ownership I have experienced the follwing problems; second day of ownership hydraulic clutch failed, managed to limp back to garage; more recently the rear diff seal failed causing the diff to fail, leaving my baby, wife and I stranded, since the diff was repaired I have a knocking noise from the back, it has been back to Farnell's 3 times but they cannot find the problem and are now refusing to look at it again until mid Jan03. Other problems have included; anti roll bar bushes replaced twice due to noisy operation and a 2 month wait for a rear window. I bought the car thinking Land Rover was a quality brand and I am disappointed it hasn't met my expections!

15 months ago I brought a 1.8exi petrol Freelander with 46000 on the clock. Up until 4 weeks ago it was fine. The cam belt failed and wreaked the engine. It was just three months out of its extended warrenty and Landrover have been most unwilling to help even though the cam belt should have lasted for at least 72000 miles. I now am faced with a horrendous bill for £3215 that I cannot pay. Whatever you do, don,t buy one. Landrover customer services are appalling and don't give a damm once they have sold you a pile of expensive crap. Thanks for nothing Landrover.

I purchased a v6 five door landrover freelander in march, 2002. I love the look and the feel but since I have gotten the vehicle, I have experienced nothing but problems. The rear glass goes down by itself, the engine support bar was the wrong size causing the vehicle to make a funny grating sound when going up hills, the gas gauge fluctuated and most recently my transmission when bad. This has been a very expensive nite mare. DON'T BUY IT.

we bought our freelander from new in december 99. Since then we have had nothing but problems. It has 19000 miles on the clock and is in the garage yet again receiving its third gear box and possibly third clutch. We have had problems with the steering, suspension, throttle, exhaust to name but a few the list is endless. Although this car has spent half its life in the garage and and views it as its second home landrover uk could'nt be less interested. When contacted there response was that's what the manufacturers warranty is for. DONT BUY ONE

I bought a secondhand freelander diesal v reg 99 (2000 model) and it goes like a rocket (on the motorway). Its tall/beefy/comfy/economical and does everything it should do, it may not be as nippy, but it`s much roomier than the Suburu Forester which I test drove shortly before buying the Freelander. I also test drove a Isuzu LWB which was comfy enough but do I realy need all that room and weight? No. Try and find a Kent Green one, and enjoy. Mack.

Hi, in response to problems with Freelanders. I have had Landrovers, Disco's and now a Freelander all my life. The Freelander has had nothing but problems since I purchased it. Firstly the rear door mechanism failed, leaving me no choice but to call Landrover assistance to recover it as I was in the middle of my holiday and in differant part of the country. Next my rear window went down by its self and refused to go up. This was caused by a broken pully. My front wheel alignment went out by going in a 'small' pothole. (Thought this was an off road vehicle!) Then my door catch went again. When I was in town, the man in the next car pressed his alarm button to open his car, at the same time opening mine! Now after 23000 miles my clutch has started to judder in first gear, and huge ammounts of smoke from the clutch billow out of the engine. What has happend to the great off road Landie? The excuses I get back from the dealers are laughable. The one dealer said my door catch failed due to a -5c over the winter. The next said it was the way I drove, I am a member of the Institute of advanced drivers, and an ex grade one police driver. Sad!! Any one had simular problems?

I did own (up until 6 weeks ago)a W reg 1.8 XEI Freelander. Now I don't - the car was 14 months old - 16,000 miles on the clock when the engine blew up! Towed into a garage - new engine in - same thing happened! Another engine was put in and I have rejected the vehicle. Horrendous problems with Land Rover Assistance. Don't buy one!
THE TD4 HAS NOW COVERD 3800 MILES, ARE WE IMPRESSED! YES A FINE MACHINE AND ITS MADE IN THE UK. LOOKING FORWARD TO SOME OFF ROAD TRACKS AND ADVENTURES TO BOOT
