Description
collection of 13 dolls made out of wishbones. Probably made by the American Indians around 1765. They are all of a black race and appear to be a wedding party. Only one male, all ladies and girls are dressed in lace, silk, with petticoats, turban head dress and ribbon or flower design on the head. A strange fact is one doll is holding a tiny white baby while another is holding a tiny black baby, we may assume they were meant to be nannies. These were given to my mother while she lived in America 30 years ago as a rememberance from a lady going into a care home. They were given to this lady from her grand mother as a Christmas gift, a hand written card dated 1894 is included with dolls, the ladies grandmother had these dolls from a child age herself and she was a member of the Buckingham family English shipping magnets. A few museums were interested in obtaining the dolls as a donation. The Smithsonian in Washington DC were very interested and wanted them, but again as a donation. My mother is now elderly herself and is residing back in the UK, she feels it time to sell them to a collector or like wise.
