Description
Hartley Fijian Ketch I have owned AJA since 1981.The hull and deck were moulded in 1977 by specialist builders Potter & Bishop, construction was overseen by Lloyds surveyors with strengthening recommendations incorporated and issued with a Lloyds hull moulding certificate. Fitted out by Lathams of Parkstone Poole with deck and lockers overlaid in Teak. The interior was fitted out to Hartley plans as an Ocean cruising floating home. She was finally launched and registered in 1979 and sailed to the Canaries and Caribbean. There is a centre cockpit layout protected with a folding pram hood and screen. Eberspatcher warm air heating system feeds outlets in all cabin areas. Length is 43 with an additional bowsprit of 4and a beam of 126and 66draft. A new engine and hydraulic gearbox were installed in 1990. The engine is a Leyland 4/98 diesel producing around 75 hp with Newage PRM 160 hydraulic gearbox and these have done very few hours. The engine was chosen for easily obtained parts from most locations in the world. The boat comes with second hand aluminium masts and steps which require some trimming and fitting. All fittings from the original box section timber masts are available to use if preferred. I like this idea as if necessary makeshift repairs in a variety of timbers could be made anywhere in the world but I could not find the time to build replacement masts. There is a full set of eleven good sails including storm and light weather sails. Stowe electronic sounder and log are fitted plus a radio telephone and domestic radio. This is a very strong yacht and with only small deck prisms and port lights making the boat safe in any sea. All fittings, bollards hand rails etc are also exceptionally strong. The photo shown is from summer 2005. Since then the boat has not been covered and the varnish has deteriorated so she looks very scruffy. She needs a new chain / anchor hatch cover constructed, some sealing to leaks through the deck and cockpit well and a general tidy up and some minor repairs. The interior is a traditional layout and very sturdy but requires replacement of a small section of timber panelling to the side of the cockpit well which had rotted due to a leak. The hull requires painting and antifouling. This is a fantastic boat which is sadly being neglected due to lack of time and with a small amount of cash enthusiasm and general maintenance will make a great world cruiser. I am asking a realistic price reflecting the condition and my need to sell. She is at present in a London mooring which is relatively expensive but not so if she were used as a floating home.
