In September 2001 the Newage Subaru Impreza was born. Subaru had finally indirectly provided tuners with a standard ECU that was even more capable than a lot of aftermarket race ECU?s from that time and even from those available today. There is very little in the Denso ECU?s programming that specialist tuners cannot access and as a result tuners have released the full capability of these fabulous ECU?s and the amazing Subaru Flat-four Boxer Engine with the potential to take your average Subaru Impreza way beyond standard running and onto power levels unheard of from 2.0L and 2.5L Turbo-Charged four cylinder engines.

Every aspect of Subaru engine running from the Ignition Timing and Turbo Boost to Air/Fuel Ratios and Rev/Speed Limiters can be altered by Remapping and Recalibrating the ECU. This is achieved via a laptop connected to the EOBD port located just below the steering column. This is the electronic gateway into your ECU and subsequent power upgrades.

Standard Subaru ECU?s are programmed very conservatively by the manufacture, so much so there is a huge margin of safety built in and therefore quite a gap between how the car drives at manufacture to how it drives after professional remapping. Subaru?s have built in bullet-proof reliability and the engines are sufficiently over engineered to take a lot more power than standard.

Examples:

2.0L/2.5L WRX with standard ECU calibrations deliver between 218bhp?225bhp. On standard engine internals with a professionally remapped Denso ECU and supporting induction, fuel pump and exhaust modifications they are capable of safely delivering up to 330bhp without adverse affect.

2.5L STi with standard ECU calibrations deliver c. 265bhp. On standard engine internals with a professionally remapped Denso ECU and supporting Turbo, induction, fuel pump and exhaust modifications they are capable of safely delivering between 370bhp-400bhp without adverse affect.

2.0L STi with standard ECU calibrations deliver c. 265bhp. On standard engine internals with a professionally remapped Denso ECU and supporting Turbo, induction, fuel pump, Injector and exhaust modifications they are capable of safely delivering between 400-420bhp without adverse affect all day long. I?ve heard genuine stories of 2.0L STi cars delivering over 500bhp on standard internals and without adverse affects in regular daily use long term, however the more power you push from these standard engines the more likely they will be to have a terminal episode so we have to be sensible about modifications and levels of remapping.

REMAPS
Pre-mapping minimum modification requirements:

Stage1 Map (WRX/STi)
High-Flow performance panel filter (Direct replacement for OEM flat panel filter i.e. K & N, Green Panel, Pipercross or Cosworth filter)
Snorkus Delete Modification (Resonator Mod)
(Both of the above mods together without further mapping are worth 4-5bhp and give a more responsive throttle)

After mapping results - c. 25bhp-30bhp power increase and 15ft/lb-25ft/lb Torque using a minimum of 99RON or higher octane fuel.

Stage2 Map (WRX/STi)
High-Flow performance panel filter (Direct replacement for OEM flat panel filter i.e. K & N, Green Panel, Pipercross or Cosworth filter)
Snorkus Delete Modification (Resonator Mod)
Decat Uppipe (from Exhaust manifold to Turbo pipe)

After mapping results ? c. 35bhp-50bhp increase and 30ft/lb-45ft/lb Torque increase using a minimum of 99RON or higher octane fuel
+ ideally - Performance Cat-back Exhaust (Decat) worth another increase of 5bhp-10bhp and 5ft/lb-8ft/lb Torque
+ ideally - Performance Downpipe incorporating a High-Flow 100 Cell/200 Cell Cat or full decat (much better), worth another 5bhp-10bhp and 5ft/lb-10ft/lb Torque

Stage2.5 Map (WRX/STi)
High-Flow performance panel filter (Direct replacement for OEM flat panel filter i.e. K & N, Green Panel, Pipercross or Cosworth filter)
or aftermarket induction kit (not recommended for applications less than 400bhp)
Snorkus Delete Modification (Resonator Mod) for OEM Airbox
Decat Uppipe (from Exhaust manifold to Turbo pipe)
Performance Cat back Exhaust (Decat)
Upgraded Fuel Pump and Fuel Pressure Regulator
Performance Downpipe incorporating High-Flow 100 Cell/200 Cell Cat or decat
+ Ideally - Aftermarket Headers e.g. Tubular GT Spec Gen II or ported OEM exhaust headers.
After mapping results ? 60bhp-85bhp increase and 55ft/lb-85ft/lb Torque increase using a minimum of 99RON or higher octane fuel

Stage 3+ high power Road/Race Type Maps (Only with supporting high end modifications to include rebuilds with forged internals)
Please ask about this remap service as this is outside of our standard staged remaps and generally requires at least 2 remap sessions to get the best from your setup. Different charges apply

Launch Control (Optional on all remaps)
Floor the throttle when stationary and your car will only rev to a pre-determined safe RPM level allowing you to take advantage of a point where you have reached maximum best torque RPM for optimum launch thereby reducing wheel spin and bogging down off the line. This is a separate addition to the map that requires setting up and adjustment for best launch performance. Once mapped this cannot be changed without remapping. Future adjustments to your Launch Control settings can be made at specially discounted rates for existing customers. This is an excellent way to achieve big improvements to your Dry/wet/damp launches and Drag strip runs. Minimise wheel spin, maximise quick times!
