Description

1970 Vitesse [genuine] Convertible. This car was dry stored for over 21 years so it's NOT had the usual bodged welds on the chassis as it didn't get the exposure to the elements for so long.

I have the last MOT before it was laid up in 1980, then from my ownership MOT's from 02, 03, 04, 05, 06 then in 07 it passed it's one-off Manx 'stiffy'.

Also I have some more lovely original documentation that came with the car when new, namely: Transient Warranty Arrangements from Standard Triumph and it's envelope for when owners move; an invitation to susbcribe to a British Leyland car magazine 'High Road'; an invitation to join the AA (£4 guinneas plus 10/6 for a metal badge); similar invitation from the RAC when life membership was £52 10s and a 'chrome and enamel badge' was £1 5s and an illuminated one 15s; Krooklok instructions; Standard Triumph Customer preparation Service Sheets; Service booklet with the first service carried out on the 11/6/1970, the 6000 mile service done on the 12/11/1970.

Over the last 6 years of ownership I've fitted new: Steering rack, doughnuts, U.J's, electronic ignition, hood, exhaust, front and rear wheel bearings, top and bottom joints and bushes, tyres, L.P.G. conversion, copper bakes pipes, new front cailpers and rear wheel cylinders, pads, discs and brake shoes, propshaft, sills, front and rear lower panels etc. She's also waxoyled.

Not all were necessary but as I went through the car I couldn't see the point of not replacing bit as they were exposed. As I never go far and the engine was seized when I got the car I replaced the engine with an A series 1.3 engine and auto box, then an LPG conversion which means no choke or petrol is required which takes the oil off the bores when on choke. This car costs pennies to run and insure. The lighter engine means she's not so quick of course but nice and light on the steering compared to when it had the 6 cylinder engine. It would be easy to return it to standard spec as there's no shortage of engine and boxes available. The sound A series engine and box would make some money back too if you did replace it.

This car is one of 21 in it's colour scheme I understand and from the amount of factory underseal it has I wonder if it was built for a Triumph employee and given an extra helping. Recently re painted after being completely stripped back and a Hammerite rust proof undercoat was applied first. Like any classic, especially one of these, the door gaps want sorting and the drivers seat is split.

As all of these cars leak I removed the carpets as they're more trouble than they're worth hence no floor pan problems. To sum up the car is extremely sound, not concours by any means but could be.

The car's always been garaged, shown here very dusty as the builders have been cutting blocks outside and the dust went everywhere. The car's registered in the Isle of Man and went through the extremely stiff test here about 18 months ago. I can deliver via Liverpool.
