Audio Cleaning Lab Deluxe 2004 is a complete package for creating CDs from a wide variety of sources. As well as the software it also includes an adaptor and cables allowing you to connect a variety of audio sources to your sound card. Typically you connect a cassette deck directly or turntable via a pre-amp to your PC's soundcard and using Audio Cleaning Lab record the songs to your PC. Once you have the tracks you can begin to tidy them up.

Audio Cleaning Lab features a number of tools, most of which can be used in a highly automated mode to filter out hiss, remove crackles and so on. The program also provides a number of presets for different music styles covering most needs as well as the ability to open up extra screens offering full manual control. Particularly effective is the tool for removing tape hiss, which requires you to sample a blank section of tape to determine the characteristics of the hiss before removing it from the under the music. As well as the cleaning tools there are a whole raft of mastering options that can add EQ, change spatial characteristics, correct tempo and much more.

This deluxe version adds 24-bit audio support and unlimited MP3 creation, plus VST support opening up some advanced options for those who really take their music seriously. With Audio Cleaning Lab all the processing happens in real-time. You can immediately get a feel for how well a given setting is going to work. Other packages don't have this luxury and you have to wait for songs to be modified before you can listen to the result, often wasting time and effort.

Ultimately it all rests on the results and you won't be disappointed. While not everything can be fixed, the majority of tape and LP-based recordings can be greatly improved and with the mastering options can end up sounding just as good as the day the LP was made.
