Description
Unique MODEL BOAT, Antique PreDreadnought Battleship. Named St Patrick. bearing St Patrick Flag (saltire) with White Ensign (RN)
Unique & unusual Model Boat (possibly based on HMS Albion of the Canopus class, built 1899-1901, But with 3 funnels, so could be a German Braunschweig Class Battleship. (Some Irish republicans sympathised with Germany during the war, was the model builder one such?))
Possibly the model preceded the N3 battleships planned in 1920's Although the N3 ships were never officially named, it has been suggested that if they had been built they would have been named after the four patron saints of the countries of the United Kingdom: including St Patrick (Ireland). Size 30ins long, 22ins high, 7ins wide. Rotating guns. Well made. Exact date of manufacture unknown but reputedly 1920's. Other Photos available.
