Victorian brass meat jack.

This item used to adorn our old fireplace, hanging on the bracket in the photo.
In Victorian times jacks were hung over the fire with the joint of meat hooked on the end.
The jack was then wound up and as it slowly unwound, the meat would turn, ensuring that it was cooked evenly all around. This jack has a key but the mechanism has seized and needs attention. Read more
