FEVERFEW HERB
(Tanacetum parthenium, or commonly feverfew plant is actually a species of chrysanthemum that has been grown in herb and medicinal gardens for centuries
Also known as featherfew, featherfoi , or the Batchlors Button the feverfew herb was and is used to treat a variety of ailments like headaches, arthritis, and
fever.
Parthenolide, the active ingredient in the plant,
is being
developed for pharmaceutical applications.
Looking amazingly like a small bush, this easy to grow herb grows to about 4 inches high, and may shoot out a branch up to 15 inches. The feverfew plant is native to central and southern Europe and grows well in the States. It has attractive Lime green foliage and in summer, white, daisy-like flowers with bright yellow centers.
The chewed leaf at first tastes bitter, but can be an acquired taste. Chewing one or two small leaves can remove the pain of a headache for half a day. I find it also stimulates my appetite. Once the feverfew herb plant takes hold, it can become invasive, spreading by seed, and creating a vibrant colourful patch.
I had aheadache this am 28/5/17, I went into the garden and picked and chewed a leaf. It was bitter but I washed it down with a nice cup of Tea. Half hour later the headache was gone, and now at 7pm there is still no trace of it!
