This beautiful dining set has been in my family since it was bought new from Ponsfords of Sheffield in 1960 by my grandparents.
It’s with sadness I part with my nannas lovely table as I have so many wonderful memories of growing up with this dining set at the heart of the family, 4 generations of Sunday roasts and playing board games in a circle around it! :)
The table has a lovely solid elm drop leaf top and elegant legs on a very sturdy beech frame.
It folds down small with both leaves or to a semi circle with the four chairs around. The slightly oval shape seats 6 comfortably and leaves no one feeling left out like a rectangle can.
The chairs are high backed, one solid length of ash, steam curved to form the main support.
The solid elm oyster shaped seats are the same rich colour as the table top.
The chairs match the table perfectly as they have always been a set and aged together.
I still have the original cushions as shown in the 1956 ercol brochure but they are easily removable to replace with modern ones.
This table has had great care taken of it and is in excellent
the BLUE LABEL is still on.
I also have the matching two tier console/bookcase in immaculate condition I am willing to negotiate on.

Windsor design, this chair presents a tall u-shaped, six spindle back and sculpted oval seat for a supportive sit.
The chair bow is steam bent from a single straight ash rail into this amazingly tight radius bend and then sanded and shaped to give its subtle and elegant profile.
Traditional wedge joints, where the legs come right through the seat and a wedge is then inserted into a cut, before the leg stump is hand sanded flush with the seat, both provide a lovely design detail and a very strong joint.
