Polyethylene glycol (PEG) 6000
I bought a job lot of this for stabilising green (freshly cut) wood for turnery work. Due to work pressures only a small amount was used.
The material has been stored safely and not contaminated but is not sold as suitable for any food applications.
The ‘bible’ for using this is Patrick Spielmans book ‘Working Green Wood with PEG’ & is well worth a read.
I turned freshly cut cherry into bowls 30yrs ago & they are still perfectly round now. (Horizontal cuts across the tree which by normal ‘seasoning’ methods would have split)
I lost my storage facility so must reluctantly dispose of my ‘cache’.
Unlike the PEG you buy from a woodworking store, this is in ‘flake’ form so dissolves quicker/easier.
Normally very expensive I am listing this to sell as I have quite a large quantity.
