This is a rare and beautiful authentic Japanese Tansu chest of drawers, circa 1890's-1920's late Meiji to early Taisho period
It comes in three section the chest features three large drawers on its bottom and middle sections, all opening via iron bail handles
The upper section features four small drawers below two sliding panels opening to reveal a good size cabinet
The whole chest of drawers is made of Kiri, a Japanese wood commonly used for Tansu such as this. Iron hardware handles on each side to secure the various sections together. This late 19th century Japanese Kiri wood Tansu chest with sliding panels would be an unusual and elegant storage unit in most homes, especially in a bedroom, thanks to its numerous drawers.
