Iford Festival Programme – Der Fledermous and L'Elisir d'amor – 2019 Summer Festival season.

Has photos and relevant informed articles about the recent productions of Der Fledermous and L'Elisir d'amor and the music and history of this Strauss operetta and Donizetti opera.

Der Fledermouswas performed at the Assembly Rooms in Bath and L'Elisir d'amor in a large tent in the gardens of Georgian Belcome Court, Bradford upon Avon.

L'Elisir d'amor was set in 1920's California in an orange grove and was performed around a central pole in the tent.

There were some interesting costumes with Belcore in a US Army uniform of the period and the quack Dr. Dulcamara appeared in a large white stetson hat similar to Hopalong Cassidy, and white double brested suit with his medical brief case, and gave the innuendo of Dr Oz in the Wizard of Oz.

There were also other interesting props of the period.
The costumes were interesting along with the stepped set which was a minimalist approach.

The orchestral playing by the Iford Arts Chamber ensemble orchestra conducted by Oliver Gooch of L'Elisir d'amor was excellent, along with the singing with Clair Lees as Adino, Robert Lewis as Nemorino, Matthew Durkan as Belcore, Luno Connolly as Giannetta and Andrew Shore as Dr Dulcamara.
