This is a lovely, high quality Reynolds 531 steel frame racing bike, from the 1980s. Bikes made from 531 steel are very light, fast and super tough – hence why so many of these lovely things are still around today and so sought after. This bicycle is compliant with all the rules for vintage cycling events such as L’Eroica.
Mechanically this bike is very impressive. The wheels run perfectly true and the Suntour drivetrain shifts gears really cleanly. The Weinmann brakes modulate very easily and are a particular highlight of the bike, in my view. It shows the sheer quality of the components and also how well they have been cared for over the years. The lack of wear on the components shows that this bike has been used relatively little.
I will include a frame pump (that fits this frame perfectly) in the sale for free. This is not shown in the photos.
There is a little patina on the frame, very common for a classic bike, which is purely cosmetic and is reflected in the price I’m asking.
The frame measures 25 inches making it relatively large. However, bikes of this era use shorter seatposts and stems than modern bikes, so 25 inches is not as huge as it might seem. I am 5’11” and this fits me well with the saddle relatively low. I expect anyone taller than 5’10” would be able to ride this comfortably.
