We are a small organisation, that is non for profit. We are a small exotic parrot rescue based in Oxfordshire we are desperately trying to find land that we can run our rescue from, in order to grow and help more needy birds, we would like to become an educational centre, where school children could come and learn about these wonderful species. Here is a little of what we do and what we are about : We are all welfare minded, and know that's parrots who come into rescue have needs that some overlook. We are unique within the Parrot rescue fraternity, as our welfare starts from day one of getting a bird in. We quarantine from other birds who are here . We arrange with our avian vet for full blood testing for diseases and illnesses by blood screening and have x rays taken to show the state of inner organs etc e.g heart, liver kidneys . This gives our vet a quick glimpse into the birds health and how we are to treat them. We then wait 7-10 days for blood results whilst birds are in quarantine. This is our first commitment to the "WELFARE" of the birds, we feed them nourishing healthy parrot safe foods, and address any psychological issues with things like enrichment and spend time assessing each bird so we get to know likes and dislikes etc. Our aim is to rehome a bird to the right "family". Which can take time, but we try ensure that we get it right.
As we are fundamentally welfare driven, we have to house the birds in large cages, we buy in perches too prevent bumble foot. We have to have a supply of good quality parrot safe toys and food , And our veterinary testing is one of the largest outlays we have, as each bird costs us between £345.00 and £445.00 each for blood testing and x rays. This doesn't include any birds which may require further treatments through what ever reason. If the bird is suffering from diseases etc... as you can see, we really could do with some land , we would love to have a coffee / gift shop as well on sight, this would benefit the local community as it means not only could we take on volunteers but we could also offer full time employment, along with the rescue becoming more able to be self sufficient with regards to funding. If there is someone who has land to offer / lease to us, please do let me know. Must be within Oxfordshire Please help us to expand our worth while cause. I know its a long shot, but hey you do not know unless you ask.
