A still life in the manner of Pieter Frans Casteels (fl. Antwerp, 1663-1700), showing a fruit basket with apples, pears, plums, and grapes as well as berries and a melon draped across a wooden entablature. Behind it, a sculpted terracotta urn with a handle in the shape of a satyr head and
adorned with peonies and other flowers. The whole still life is held in a slightly subdues palette, characteristic of 18th-century Dutch and Flemish works within this genre. The whole painting is covered with attractive craquelure, but the paint layer is absolutely stable.
