Advert Description

For Sale.

17hh 11 year old full Irish Draught gelding.

Barney is a true find. He is one of the most genuine and sweet natured horses out there. Big and powerful enough to carry a man out hunting all day. But sensitive and genuine enough to take care of a woman.
Hacks alone and in company, in front or behind. Good with traffic and schools well. Used to wide open spaces and stubble fields. Sure footed and steady. A forward ride, responsive and easy to control. Never naughty or sharp and is good with spooky, young and naughty horses. Schools on open grassland at home and jumps on open grassland.
Barney is an excellent jumper. He has a big stride and carrys himself into a fence well. He is scopey and careful, rarely has a pole on his own error. Turns very well for a horse of his size and schools round a course of fences nicely. Has won numerous SJ competitions. Currently jumping 1m tracks unaff showjumping. Would BS up much higher given schooling and work. Loves his XC. Jumps anything, ditches, trackaners, water, steps, drops, everything. Again very careful into his fences, never rushes and covers the ground with his stride.
Has never done dressage, works in a soft and supple outline when schooled correctly, and is very relaxed through his paces. Would most definately event with some work.
Barney has shown both under saddle and in hand. He has mainly done hunter classes. Only unaffilated. But has always had good feedback and has never come out without a placing.

Barney was ultimately bred to hunt. His dam and sire where both hunter types and he has prooven to us that he really enjoys hunting. He has little experience on the hunt field but has hunted and despite being a touch strong to begin with, he stayed out all day, jumped a ditch and a hedge and was brilliant with the hounds. With a bit more experience he would make somebody a fabulous and reliable hunter for many years to come.

He is a super easy horse to keep. No special requirments. He has lived alone and in company with no issues. Good to catch, shoe, clip (legs and head to), bath, plait, tie up, groom, stable, turnout etc. Does prefer to live out rather than in. But is currently in. Lives with mares, geldings, even a stallion at one point, has been with youngsters with no issues, shares food etc. Brilliant with children, used to them, handled by them and has been ridden by them.

Barney is a homebred horse. He has never been away from us and we never intended to sell him. He has gone beyond what we intended to do with him and has always tried his hardest to do what we have asked of him. He is a true treasure to own in every way but we feel we are holding him back from bigger and better things. We intend to showjump. But he could do so much more. Very sad and reluctant sale of such a classic horse.
