Antique Japanese Meiji Satsuma tea service from the Kyoto factory.
Beautiful hand painted views of Geisha girls and other people in a winter landscape.
Decorated in tan, cream, lilac, black, grey and white with gold gilding.
Marks on underside include the Shimazu family crest and indicate that the items are possibly early 20th century (1912 or earlier?).
Set comprised of teapot with dragon spout, milk jug and sugar vessel (all three with lids topped by ball finials), plus six cups and six saucers.
Has been stored for many years in a cabinet so overall in very good condition, with no damage to the pottery, or enamel or gilding - except for a small chip on the top of the dragon's mouth on the teapot spout.
This is an "honest" chip which looks like it happened a very long time ago as it has aged.
This could be easily restored with a small amount of gold paint.
However, from most angles the
chip is not visible - so should not be a problem if being used for display purposes only.
