Rare Shetland Fowl Cockerels available to poultry keepers with good, clean set-ups. Hatched August 2017.
Shetland Fowl are an unusual breed from the Shetland Islands. Shetlands are between bantam and large fowl in size. They are a gentle and docile breed, not flighty and easily handled. They are hardy and often long-lived. The boys are not overly noisy (but obviously they do still crow).
Shetland Cockerels carry the DOMINANT GREEN EGG GENE which means that almost all hen chicks they sire will lay either blue or green eggs.
The Cockerels I have available are still very immature (this is a slow maturing breed) but showing lovely colours and markings starting to come through. They will be capable of covering hens Spring 2018. All of the Cockerels I have for sale have the preferred head 'tappit' (plume of head feathers).
