The Zoom HD16 multitrack hard disk recorder is a great live recording and music production tool offering 8-track simultaneous recording via 8 balanced XLR-1/4" combo inputs with phantom power, 160 virtual tracks, and 16-track playback. Musicians can record songwriting sessions or live sets directly to the Zoom HD16's 80GB hard drive in 16-bit/44.1kHz linear PCM WAV format, move the audio files to a computer's digital audio workstation via an integral USB 2.0 port, and then use the HD16CD as a MIDI control surface for the included Cubase software during editing and mixing. Audio tracks can be edited by Copy, Move, Erase, Trim, Reverse and Fade In-Out functions. Each track has assignable encoders controlling 3-band EQ, pan and send levels.

Two high-impedance inputs on the Zoom HD16CD allow direct connection of guitars and basses, so guitarists can plug into Zoom's guitar and bass amp modelling capabilities of over 100 internal effects. As well as guitar/bass effects, the HD16 contains multi-effects such as reverb, delay and compression for processing vocals, mixing and mastering and a Drum/Bass machine with 500 sounds and touch sensitive pads. The HD16 also contains the "8×COMP EQ" effect for use on up to eight inputs simultaneously to individually optimize dynamics and frequency response when recording multiple tracks at once. A 60 second sampler allows you to add original drum sounds to the drum kits available. The HD16CD contains an internal CD/RW drive to burn the project to CD or backup data on CDs. Disc-at-once writing is supported, for producing live albums or mixes without pauses between tracks. Capturing the audio data of a CD for use as V-takes is also possible

The Zoom HD16CD ships bundled with Cubase LE Digital Audio MIDI Workstation sequencing software for easy editing, mixing and mastering of your recordings on either Windows or Mac. Cubase LE offers 48 audio and 64 MIDI tracks, 2 insert and 4 effects sends per channel, full mix automation, score editing and up to 8 VST instruments.
