Description

We are breeding towards Black eyed Sealpoint siamese selfs, powder blue and related varieties along with varigated. This year saw the start of our varigated/masked breeding programme which have proven incredibly popular. We currently have black and British blue with 2010 seeing Russian blue agouti dilute.

Twilight's own Kobi line is now 10 generations long with the health and temperment of the rats being second to none. We only breed rats from healthy lines. Our bucks are allowed to mature before being considered as potential sires and our does produce a litter or sometimes 2 if the need arises when they are at least 5 months. Our preferred age for a litter is 8 months when the does are mature both mentally as well as physically.

Each pairing is carefully thought out with our rats being matched for health and temperment thus guaranteeing our litters are happy, healthy and well adjusted before leaving our care at 6-7 weeks of age. Twilight kits are handled from birth several times a day until they are ready to leave us for new lives with new families. Our kits are chunky, human loving bundles of fur and make excellent pets for any age group, young and old a like although we do ask that supervision is provided with young children. Our babies are very bold but like any small baby animal they are fragile and care should be taken by a responsible adult.

Our rats live as part of the family and are cherished pets, their welfare coming first and foremost. Our litters are reared in our living room and are familiar with household noise and activities as well as family and a variety of other animals. It's not uncommon to find rat kits playing with my spaniel's ears!

Our rats are housed in large cages and want for nothing. All receive daily stimulation and have cages packed with a variety of toys, hammocks etc. Over the past few years we have formulated our own dry mix diet to include all the correct nutrients that rats need. When rearing litters we rear on a large variety of foods along with kit food to prevent fussy eating once they leave us.

We use a dust free, cotton based substrate in our rat cages to prevent allergies. We retail bales of this which can be found on the Twilight website. As well as being dust free its very economically priced.

Twilight rattery is pleased to announce a new subsiduary breeder "Starlight Rattery", who has taken on our own line of British blue selfs under our guidence and we wish them every success now and in the future!

We also run our own popular rat forum "Starratz" with over 180 members, many of whom own Twilight rats and will be more than happy to share their experiences with you. We have over 40 members on line daily to help with any rat related questions that you may have, or just for some friendly rat chat. The forum is known for its friendly, politics-free outlook and we have regular meet ups where you can put faces to names. You will find a real wealth of knowledge and experience from other rat owners and breeders as well as making life-long friends! December will see the first Starratz Christmas Party! You will find our comprehensive Kit Enquiry Form via the website. A pair of rats is a 3 year commitment so not something to be taken lightly. Therefore we ask new owners to complete this questionnaire to help us ensure our babies go to the very best homes possible.

Twilight will on occasions home to breeders if they are known to us. If any one is interested in our lines but not known to us then we will require a reference from another breeder. We do not believe in contracts so you will not be asked to sign any forms, however we do like to keep in touch with all our new rat owners via the forum, email or phone on occasions. We welcome visits... the kettle is always on!

Twilight kits are homed after being checked by a qualified vet with over 30 years experience. You will receive a colour printed family history certificate for each baby. Our homing fee is £25 per same sex pair regardless of coat or ear type. We will home in trio's when the need arises. We do not home single kits - rats are very social and should never be kept alone. Should you require a single kit then you would need to have friends of the same age either at home or booked with a fellow breeder.

We are happy to offer advice for the life time of your rats and will help out with advice for rats that haven't come from the rattery. If after homing our kits your circumstances should change for whatever reason, we will happily take our rats back at any time in their lives. We understand that some life changes are beyond one's control and for that reason we are not judgemental. Returned rats will either remain and live out their lives with us or be found a new forever home that will be personally vetted by ourselves.

New rat owners will be offered a comprehensive care booklet. We are also able to offer our popular, original rat kitten starter packs at cost upon request.

As responsible breeders we need to put the welfare of both our own pets and the kits that we home first so Twilight rats will not be seen at shows this year due to the viruses within the fancy rat community. We do show and are members of both the M.R.C and the IOW.org. For the very same reasons we have suspended our holiday boarding until the New Year when hopefully the situation will be safer.
