Officialy known as the civillian defence helmet, this helmet was designed by professor Zuckerman for use by Fire Watchers and Civil Defence forces. Manufactured from pressed steel with a leather and webbing liner which was attached to the helmet via a chord passed through the helmets surface. This example is in good condition with original paint and liner. The inner rim of the hemet is stamped with a 1941 date and the original string is in good condition, the liner is in very good condition. An example of home front headgear from the blitz period.
There is a little rust spot here and there but is not rusted through. It still looks good. This item was stored in the loft so does show signs of age but it still in good condition as can be seen in the pucture,
