Advert Description

Royal Engineers Steamer Chest made from an old ammunition box marked Capt. 12 I E W T Sandes RE.
Research indicates the owner of this box was Edward Warren Caull Sandes born 1880 who was made a Captain of the Royal Engineers in 1908.
He rose to the rank of Lt Col and retired in 1930 but helped with WWII as a consultant.
His awards included DSO, MC and OBE.
He was the author of a book Military Engineer in India and was renowned for his service in the Indian Army with the Bengal Sappers.
He served in the Sudan and was much travelled.
