This beautiful ERCOL dining set has been in my family since it was bought new from Ponsfords of Sheffield in the late 50s/very early 1960s by my grandparents.
The table has a lovely solid elm drop leaf top and elegant legs on a very sturdy beech frame.
It folds down small with both leaves or to a semi circle with the four chairs around. The slightly oval shape seats 6 comfortably and leaves no one feeling left out like a rectangle can.
The chairs are high backed, one solid length of ash, steam curved to form the main support.
The solid elm oyster shaped seats are the same rich colour as the table top.
The chairs match the table perfectly as they have always been a set and aged together.
I still have the original seat pads as shown in the 1956 ercol brochure, they presstud underneath but could easily be replaced with something more modern.
This table has had great care taken of it ( my nanna had a heat proof pad fitted to size under tablecloth) and Is in excellent condition
the BLUE LABEL is still on.
I also have the matching two tier trolley/console/bookcase in immaculate condition that I’m willing to also sell.
If you have any further questions please feel free to message me.
Windsor design, this chair presents a tall u-shaped, six spindle back and sculpted oval seat for a supportive sit.
The chair bow is steam bent from a single straight ash rail into this amazingly tight radius bend and then sanded and shaped to give its subtle and elegant profile.
Traditional wedge joints, where the legs come right through the seat and a wedge is then inserted into a cut, before the leg stump is hand sanded flush with the seat, both provide a lovely design detail and a very strong joint.
