Unique Versatile Large Studio Pottery Colander Drainer Strainer With Drip Saucer. Hand Made By Fiona Symons. Bicton Pottery Cornwall. Unused. Very Good Condition. Rare.
This attractive rare studio art pottery colander and accompanying matching under plate were hand made and painted by Fiona Symons as part of her unique Bicton Pottery range from Hatt, Saltash, Cornwall. Fiona has signed both pieces with her initials. Their undoubted timeless appeal is the fact that they are unique hand made rustic pieces with real character.
The pale blue / grey background glaze and fresh blue over painted embellishment has resulted in a highly decorative set which would enhance and look perfectly at home in either a traditional or more modern kitchen.
Not all colanders have an accompanying under plate to catch drips so this set has been thoughtfully designed. The colander is so pretty that it can double up as a serving bowl for certain foods. Also, as well as being a really useful practical duo when used together, given the separate drip saucer is a decorative piece in its own right it is very handy as a serving plate.
The approximate size of the colander is: 11.5 cm high x 23 cm top diameter.
The approximate diameter of the under plate is: 22 cm.
Although pre-owned neither this lovely colander nor its associated drip saucer have ever been used. They have been displayed in a cupboard since being purchased directly from the potter and consequently are in very good condition. These items have not been damaged and subsequently repaired; they have no cracks or crazing. There is a miniscule surface chip in the glaze on the outer edge of the drip saucer, revealing the earthenware - this is barely noticeable and has not gone deeper than the glaze; as the nature of the piece is rustic this tiny spot does not at all detract from the usefulness or decorative value of this item.
Please study the photographs provided to make your own assessment regarding the condition of these items, and to satisfy yourself regarding the potter's mark on their base.
This is a reluctant private sale from a pet and smoke free home. I am only selling this set now as I need the space.
Some galleries in Cornwall still sell pieces from the same range. However, it is quite rare to come across one of Fiona's colanders. As she is sadly no longer making pottery these items are becoming increasingly sought after and collectable.
Given pottery is fragile I would prefer the buyer to collect, and pay cash on collection please. However, if essential, I would be willing to send these items to a location within mainland United Kingdom, at the buyer's own risk, for an additional £16.50. In this situation I would make every reasonable effort to pack the colander and under plate as carefully as possible so as to help ensure their safety. Regret no returns accepted. Thank you.
