Meri is an unregistered new forest pony he is 13,3 and is 12 years old.
I have had Meri since he was a few months old and mainly due to lack of time, have never been able to keep consistently working him,he was backed at 4 and turned away to mature mentally and physically,I rode him for a few months when he was 5/6 then he was turned away again as he had a bit of a tantrum and I lost confidence in him ,I also thought he needed to develop more before he would be comfortable being ridden.
Meri was on loan away from us for a few years and unexpectedly given back last year due to lack of grazing. Since then I have been training him to drive,we got up to pulling the cart slowly round our yard but realised it is too small to carry on with it,we have done this with and without blinkers.
I have also been lunging him and have sat on him a few times but I am very nervous so I haven't asked him to move yet.
Meri is an absolute gentleman to be handled, brushed, led, trimmed, plaited etc. He is calm and willing to lunge and loose school and will long rein past all sorts of scary large and rude traffic.
He is very friendly and will come over in the field to be caught without being rude or pushy. He has lived out almost all his life with a mixed herd and is very friendly to all sexes and sizes of company.
Meri likes learning new things but in small steps and can panic if pushed too far beyond his comfort zone too quickly.
I would love to keep Meri but I have more ponies than time and have no clear goal to keep me working him consistently,he would be a great ride or driving pony for someone who has the confidence and knowledge to finish his training.
He would also be perfect for anyone looking to keep to groundwork and handling as he is very patient with being cuddled and played with.
