1967 Snow Trac ST4 restoration project.
This is the small tracked personal Snow Cat, ideal for use on snow, grass or desert sand. They were used in this country for many years on the big farming estates and by Forestry people in the days before Quads.
This one spent it's working life in Cumbria, then was retired into a Nissan Hut with the introduction of Quad bikes, and sat there until it was 'rescued' 10 years ago.
On bringing it home, we had her up and running within half an hour. She was stripped down for restoration, the idea was to show here alongside our old tractors at agricultural shows, but there's never enough time, so it's time she moved on to someone who can give her the love she deserves.
With a alloy cab, built on steel body, she is powered by a commercial Volkswagen flat four 'boxer' petrol engine. Steering is Via a steering wheel, and driven through the caterpillar tracks.
The engine has been stored in a building since being removed. Everything was working fine when stripped down for the beginning of the restoration, engine, drive and steering. The tracks are tensioned by a series of small rubber wheels (tyres). Some of these are worn, but they are similar to those used on some haybobs and are readily available. All the original parts are with the machine.
She would make an interesting and unusual project for the right enthusiast.
Collection from Eagland Hill, Near Garstang, PR3 6 postcode. We can load with telehandler, and it would need a 14 foot trailer to collect with.
