Advert Description

This beautiful creature is a FOUR Toed box turtle...!

It's the last of the terrapene carolina triunguis that I have so genetically its a Three Toed Box Turtle... but it has four toes on its back feet, a brightly coloured orange carapace with the black blotches to the plastron. In appearance its the closest thing you can have to an Eastern Box Turtle, without it actually being one.

The reason for this is the fact that triunguis, carolina, major etc. are all subspecies of terrapene carolina, so technically all related anyway. On the the edge of the range they integrate quite a lot so rarely are any of them pure one subspecies or another. You can selectively breed brightly coloured triunguis to produce offspring identical to carolina carolina. That is what we have here.
