Advert Description
Hexhamshire Horns are a new breed being developed in Northumberland for low input regenerative farming approaches and to help match livestock genetics to your land. Selected to minimise costs they are grass fed, outdoor lambing with minimal intervention, good mothers, shed and should need minimal worming with good management. They are developed from Wiltshire horns crossed mainly with Soay and Castlemilk Moorit for the toughness of native breeds, but with some blue faced Leicester, zwartble and Cheviot. This diverse base allows you to select for the animals that thrive in the particular conditions of your farm or small holding.
Our aim is to select for Mouflon coloured horned sheep that shed well and need minimal time input from us for them to thrive. But the mix at present includes hornless, white and non-shedding sheep so we can match animals to your requirements.
Crossing with Leicesters would provide white mule type lambs as colour is recessive
Three ewes and an unrelated tup £450.00. Tup also available separately.
