This mouthpiece is just the Aaron Drake’s “rendition” of the traditional Brilhart Tonalin/Ebolin mouthpiece.
Here we have all the design elements of Brilhart alto mouthpiece: trapezoidal chamber, longer mouthpiece window and long low roll-over baffle.
Compared to most common used “Meyer style” mouthpieces, we got here slightly more “compression” (slightly faster attack) and an enhancement of mid frequencies… but no, this mouthpiece doesn’t sound like a Selmer Soloist.

This model is called “Bebop Special” because it recalls what the most common sounds in the 40’s and early 50’s: Charlie Parker, Sonny Stitt.. but also Benny Carter and Johnny Hodges used to play Brilhart (or “Brilhart style”) mouthpieces.
The overall design of this mouthpiece is still extremely versatile even where the contest requires volume and compressions… Maceo Parker still uses a Brilhart (Ebolin) nowadays.
This mouthpiece can still be an option from who needs a ”different tone”, a reliable alternative to the traditional “Meyer style” mouthpiece, with added volume and projection… without moving to a high baffle/contemporary mouthpiece.
