4 PIECES- (matte finish externally) from George Cooks Ambleside pottery, Cumbria.
Two plant pots 4” (10cm) tall and 4½” (11.5cm) wide at the rim. Both have a single drainage hole in the base and white glazed internally. One is dark brown and blue banded, the other dark brown and dark ochre banded. Both have differing sgraffiti decoration designs. Both marked on base Ambleside in different handwriting and one with artist initials JMA.
One saucer/dish, possibly plant pot saucer 5” (12.5cm) in diameter and 1” (2.5cm) tall Dark brown and ‘weathered’ terracotta look in colouring almost matching the brown plant pot but the sgraffiti design is the same as the blue pot. Marked on base in the same hand as the brown plant pot and the artist initials MR.
One small pin dish /open salt bowl 2½” (6.3cm) in diameter and 1” (2.5cm) tall. White glaze internally. Dak brown and blue bands, with a sgraffiti design matching the blue plant pot and plant pot saucer. Marked on base in the same hand as saucer and brown plat pot, again initialled MR.
Ambleside Pottery was set up by George Cook in 1948 before retiring in 1968, the pottery eventually closed in the 1980’s. Renowned for slipware pottery and later sgraffiti. Worked with many talented artists at Ambleside Pottery.
