Advert Description

Oxfam Shop Plymouth Jaccques Offenbach, a prodigious and potently talented figure in the history and formation of modern opera, he is remembered for the nearly 100 operettas created from the 1850s to the 1870s, which were to become standard landmarks for the celebration of all opera. His renown, command of, and devotion to opera meant that within his field, his presence was so undeniable, his influence so strong that he imposed a henceforth followed set of values and gradations in determining the excellence of a piece. Of all Offenbach's works, it is 'Les Contes D'Hoffman' which is most known, the last work he would undertake, and left unfinished, before he would die; it is furthermore considered his most serious piece, the most astringent and the most completely rewarding in the depth of it's emotional catharsis. The opera is "based on three of the psychologically complicated and fantastic stories of the German Romantic author and composer E.T.A. Hoffmann," and reflecting it's source material is a thought provoking and darkly penetrative work. This edition gives the listener 3 vinyls and 6 sides of comprehensive, devastating Offenbach magic. The condition of the vinyl are pristine with no scratches and little dust. The box has suffered but has held it's form and colour well.
