Catawiki’s goal is to make special objects universally available. Our weekly auctions feature thousands of unusual, rare, and exceptional objects you won’t find in just any store. Welcome to Passion d'Orient:Malayer is a beautiful little town located between the towns of Hamadan and Arak. The region produces the best grapes and some of the most beautiful carpets. The consistency, fidelity and originality of the weave of these carpets, without any influence from other carpets, make them the most sought-after ones. Each Malayer family has designs which are woven into the carpets. Their designs are symmetrical or asymmetrical with floral or geometric patterns. They also weave small figures with different combinations and with balance, such as humans, horseriders, camels, horses and ducks swimming in lakes with goldfish (symbol of good luck). Thanks to the finesse of the carpets, the designs are very clearly shown. Their wools are of very high quality with a natural brightness. Their colours are natural, and sometimes synthetic on the new carpets. The orange colour with the deep brownish-red of rust gives an unusual character to the carpets. The result is excellent when all the colours are combined with the night indigo blue colour and the natural beige of the wool, which softens and draws the different colours together well, giving a three-dimensional shape to the designs. We can also see the shading mentioned above in old Saruk and Feraghan carpets. Carpet sellers always have a Malayer carpet in their collections to attract customers.
