The painting has cracks in the panel which is especially visible in the sky.For Wijsmuller his first years as a painter were a fight against poverty. Gradually, however, he established a reputation as a painter and in 1883 he won a silver medal at an exhibition in Amsterdam. He could then take lessons at the evening academy in Amsterdam and at Felix Merites.Related to the Hague School, he made many nature scenes, painting in the open air. In the beginning he made many Amsterdam cityscapes, later also landscapes, among others near Kortenhoef and Noorden.During the rest of his life he won many prizes and works by him were purchased by Museums. 22459933
