Zwart, canvas size 60 x 40 cm, oil on canvas. Potato harvesting on the farm. Attractive scene with a beautiful matching Niemeijer frame which is processed over the corners. Signed at the bottom right. Painting clean and no defects, so can be right on the wall. The extensive oeuvre of painter Arie Zwart is almost entirely painted in the Impressionist style that was developed in the 19th century by the painters of the Hague School. The depiction of light and mood plays an important role in this. Also in regard to his subjects, especially landscapes (often outdoors), farms, lakes and still lifes (Zwart was passionate about flowers), the work of Black is closely aligned to this movement. The painter was not bound to a specific area and liked to wander: in the 1930s, he led a roaming existence, travelled with a caravan through Brabant and Gelderland and between 1936 and 1974 through Overijssel and the provinces of Noord and Zuid Holland with a tugboat/ houseboat. Then he moored in Woerden. In between, he made trips to Spain, Portugal and the South of France. 22797411
