This one from a 1619 edition.Very good condition. Centerfold as issued. Wide margins. French text on verso. Beautiful colours. Spot at the westcoast of Africa.This was Hondius' second map of Africa, and reflects considerable improvements in the geography of the interior. Cape Horn is more rounded, the Rio de Spirito Santo is and the River Cuamo is also named. While based upon Mercator's map, Hondius has improved considerably on Mercator's coastline, particularly Madagascar. Hondius also adds Saldanha Bay and Cape Falco, and eliminates Cayneca. The map reflects the Portugese discoveries on the Upper Zambezi. 22872105
