This advert is located in and around Lymington, London

Advert Description

Oxfam Bookshop Lymington The 1847 pocket-size edition of The Diamond Bible is enclosed in a black, leather covered, vertical-entry slip case which carries gold floral motifs on front and back, the spine divided into four sections by gold dividing lines, three containing gold floral motifs and the fourth the title "Bible". The fourth side of the case is plain black. The case is lined with marbled paper and appears to be clean although the edges show signs of wear. The Bible contains a few monochrome drawing illustrations with the frontispiece being of "Moses with the Tables of the Law". The black leather full covers and spine of the book carry the same patterning as the slip case and the three page edges are gold blocked. The covers and spine appear to be complete and clean, but show some wear at the edges and to the front and spine. The binding is tight with all pages appearing to be fully attached. The front and rear end-papers are of the same marbled paper as the lining of the slip case. All pages appear to be free from damage and clean apart from some brown discoloration (particularly at the front and back) and a hand-written pencil account, dated 1858, of the original purchaser on a blank pre-title page.
