Advert Description

Oxfam Music & Art Exeter A special compilation from the "Eyewitness" series - a unique history of Britain in the twentieth century, written by the historian Joanna Bourke, and narrated by the late, great Tim Pigott-Smith. This special compilation draws mainly upon the BBC archives, from the Late-1930s to the Mid-1940s, as the BBC faced the challenge of reporting the Second World War. The conflict was one of the first to occur in the age of global broadcasting, and the BBC served not only the vital roles of reporting the war and also conveying official announcements, but had the important job of lifting the nation's morale. These extracts, together with reminiscences, cover such episodes as : the Munich Agreement ; the subsequent drift toward war ; Dunkirk ; the Battle of Britain ; the Blitz ; D-Day ; and, Victory both in Europe and in the Far East. They also reveal life on the Home Front, as the BBC became the official voice of the nation in its darkest days ... The CD is NEW & SEALED. See Oxfam website for delivery information
