Welcome to Passion d'Orient:Hereke (Turkey) is a small town located on the shores of the Marmara Sea, around 70 km south-east of Istanbul. A Sultan's factory was founded in Hereke in 1843 to weave prestigious, very finely knotted silk rugs for the Ottoman court. This production lasted until the end of the empire in 1922. Around 1955, the production of these very fine rugs (some may exceed 30,000 knots/m²) was resumed. Hereke also produces very high-quality wool rugs. Currently, a limited number of rugs are produced by the artisans of Hereke.
