Published by Free Association Books, London, 1989. First published in Spanish in 1981. From the back cover: This is the autobiography of one of the most remarkable women of our times. Marie Langer (1910-1987) was a psychoanalyst whose political commitment led her through some of the century's most dramatic events both in Europe and Latin America. A clandestine Communist in 1930s red Vienna and a medical volunteer in the Spanish Civil War, she went into forced exile in Argentina and later in Mexico. In both countries she influenced the development and direction of psychoanalysis.
