This novel is centered round the family and home of the Borough Treasurer of Watermouth Regis, which includes his musically minded wife and two daughters, Anna and Louise Portal. Anna is engaged to be married to the local undertaker - Mayor and is strictly prim and proper. But Louise is heartfree until Richard Hardy, a well known yachtsman comes into the picture. His advent causes a sensation within and without the Portal family circle, and the outcome is a sparkling novel.
