Undated, published by James Ridgway. Likely to have been published around 1849. A scarce title, this is volume 1 of a 2 volume set.
Full leather binding, dark brown. 6 spine bands with tooled/impressed decoration. Marbled end papers. Gilt page edges. Vignette engraving on the title page.
This is a fascinating book with an interesting provenance. No author is given, however some sources state this was the work of William Joseph Denison (1770 – 1849) an English banker and politician.
There is an inscription on the title page reading 'Lord A. Conyngham, with the Author's kind love.'
William Denison died the year this book is cited to have been published, leaving his considerable wealth to his nephew Lord Albert Conyngham.
Albert Denison Denison, 1st Baron Londesborough, (1805 – 1860) was a British Liberal Party politician and diplomat, known as Lord Albert Conyngham from 1816-49.
In acceptable/good condition, rubbing wear to the extremities of the cover, the spine label is fairly damaged with a small piece missing. Internally the pages are pretty clean, lightly yellowed with some foxing spots on the first few pages.
