1788.By Tom Telescope. Printed for T Carnan, successor to Mr J Newbery ( who researches suggest may be the real name of Tom Telescope.)
Full title goes to to say 'Adapted to the capacities of young gentleman and ladies. And familiarized and made entertaining by objects with which they are intimately acquainted.' ( Illustrations include Mount Vesuvius - and it seems rather surprising that 18 century children would be intimately acquainted with that....)
Marbled board, 1/4 velum and seems to be the original binding. Spine somewhat wrinkled but overall in very good condition - unusual for a children's book from the 18th century.
At the end of the book there is a 14 page list of books printed for T Carnan.
Two previous owners names - one on the inside front board in pencil and one on title page, please see photos. There are various illustrations.
