Compiled by de Zoete and Bevan. Manual of Tea Producing Companies. For Private Circulation only. Unpaginated with the paper, several hundred pages, bound in, office style. Solid buckram binding with title on spine faded. No dj. Front covers in conflict with the tile page over compilers (de Zoete & Gorton). No date, but from internal evidence, 1971. Preface dated August 1971 stating that it has been decided to discontinue the Manual which had been in production for over 60 years. So this last edition marks truly the end of an era.
de Zoute and Bevan were brokers no doubt specialising in tea. They were taken over by Barclays in the '80s. The Manual consists mainly of financial details of well over 200 tea companies and makes fascinatng reading for anyone with an interest in the trading of tea half a century ago or researching into the history of the tea trade. There is also a list of the Company Directors and other useful statistics. A mine of information. £50.
