The Great Lakes - Pierre Berton
With photographs by Andre Gallant.
Toronto: Stoddart. First edition 1996. pp 222.
Unclipped dust jacket in overall good condition with stamped titles. The corners are very good but there are some unsightly tears along the fore edge from rough handling.
Excellent blue cloth boards with silver titles to spine: much more attractive than the jacket. Paste down map of the region, evocative of the pioneering days, and this is the underlying theme throughout the book: the frontier is never far away, and we are informed that ten thousand vessels have been lost to a watery grave.
Outstanding text block, its faces starting to yellow. Sensational images, old and new, of life around this vast region, aided by Gallant's wonderful photography. All text in English.
A must have coffee table book for anyone lucky enough to have visited the lakes and reliving the memories. Better without its jacket.
